McKenna Quinn and El Pescador Lodge are excited to team up once again to bring you the MQ Macabí Club September 4th-7th, 2025 in the heart of Ambergris Caye, Belize!

This serene 4-day, 3-night trip starts with a casting class under the watchful eye of the lodge fishing director, followed by two full days fly fishing on the Belizean waters chasing bonefish, tarpon, and permit.

2024 Retreat Recap

We took 17 ladies fishing in Belize, only two of which had ever saltwater fly fished before! From the moment we landed at the San Pedro airport, El Pescador coordinated our transportation to the lodge via private water taxi. We arrived at El Pescador where we were greeted like family by the incredible staff, who gave us a quick check-in process before heading to the dock for a casting lesson. Each evening, El Pescador would offer any guests of the lodge complimentary casting lessons to help prepare for fishing the next day! Our lodge fishing director, Mariano gave our group a rundown of the various areas surrounding the island where we would target specific fish such as bonefish, permit, tarpon, and snook. Each night we came together as a group to enjoy amazing family-style meals of fresh fish, lobster, shrimp, and other Belizean favorites.

Each morning, the ladies would meet with their guid to discuss their target fish for the day, and head to the fly shop to to make sure they had the right flies. El Pescador supplied each boat with complimentary rods and reels to use if they did not bring their own. We sent out two waves of boats each morning, half leaving a 5:30am and half leave at 6:30am, breakfast burritos in-tow. In between perfecting our casts, so many fish were caught! 8 permit, 4 tarpon, 35 bonefish, 6 jack, and one snook to be exact. 

But one of the best parts was coming together each evening to share fishing stories over champagne and cocktails. These ladies blew our expectations out of the water. And while we were sad to leave, we were excited at the level of interest we had in bringing you this next trip!

Sample Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive at the lodge via private water taxi after first landing at the San Pedro Airport, and enjoy a welcome drink while you check into your room. Take a few practice casts during the complimentary casting lesson before sitting down to a family-style dinner of Belizean specialities such as lobster and fresh-caught snapper.

Day 2 & 3 - Enjoy a Belizean breakfast (or breakfast burritos to-go) and depart with your guide for a full day of fly fishing on the flats. Return to the lodge in the afternoon to enjoy the pool, paddle board, or relax with a cocktail on the beach before dinner.

Day 4 - Enjoy a sit-down breakfast with new-found friends before departing via water taxi for your puddle jumper flight.

The El Pescador Lodge

This Orvis-endorsed, mahogany colonial lodge is right on the beach, facing the sea, surrounded by fragrant tropical flowering plants and the whisper of shady palms. Each of the fourteen main lodge guest rooms lookout to the sea and are just steps away from our swimming pool adjacent to the beach. All rooms have private baths, overhead fans and air-conditioning.

El Pescador always provides a seasonal farm-to-table dining experience that reflects the culinary origins of our country. Their fish catch is from nearby waters - meats and produce come from family-owned and local farms on mainland Belize. Enjoy a full selection of both local and imported beverages, as well as afternoon bar snacks at the Grand Slam Bar.
